Anthony Robinson died after being hit by a car on Bevington Street in Avonhead on Saturday
He died at the scene.
His partner took to social media -- claiming Robinson was deliberately run over by the couple's landlord.
The landlord -- who doesn't want to be named -- says he came to take photos of the house but was forced to flee as Robinson chased him.
He sped off in a Hilux ute, then says he heard the 51-year-old yell "you're hurting me" -- so he slammed on the brake.
Robinson collapsed on the road and died a short time later
The landlord says if he could take it back, he would.
Police are still investigating and are appealing for witnesses.
