A source has told the Herald the bones were encased in concrete - and a large lump of concrete was removed from the Mt Eden house this morning.
A police spokesman says it's possible the person died some years ago and formal identification will require forensic evidence.
He says obtaining a DNA profile may take a week or two, but identification is only possible if Police and ESR have a comparative DNA sample.
Until then, Police won't speculate on their identity.
