A heavy rain warning is in force for Fiordland, Westland, Buller and the headwaters of the Canterbury and Otago lakes and rivers.
Weatherwatch head forecaster Philip Duncan expects the worst of the wind and rain will be felt today.
He says most of that wind will be around the mountains in the Southern Alps, and the heavy rain will be mostly on the West Coast.
Emergency Management Southland have been keeping a close eye on the storm - and say while there'll be rain it won't cause significant problems.
