The first Christchurch coronavirus testing centre is opening its doors today
18 March 2020
There are now 12 cases of covid-19 nationwide, but none in Canterbury.
CDHB Chief Medical Officer, doctor Sue Nightingale, says Community Based Testing Centres are being opened as required, with the first near Christchurch Hospital today allowing increased testing capacity.
But she says testing at the first centre will only be on referral from GPs and the hospital's emergency department.
Nightingale says anyone with covid-19 will be given advice on what to do, with most people able to stay home safely while they recover.
