Drought-stricken areas in Northland have missed out on a significant portion of this weekend's wet weather

Heavy rain hit the North Island yesterday, but many parts of Northland received less than 10 millimetres of rainfall.

However Meteorologist Chris Brandolino says these areas could potentially see some much needed rain as we head into the beginning of the week.

He says there could be locally 10-25 millimeters of rainfall across the northern and eastern parts of Northland.
