Lessons are there to be learnt from this year's roll out of the flu vaccine
27 April 2020
Vaccines were initially sent to general practices on a 'first-in, first-served' basis, rather than where high-risk patients were.
The Medical Association described it as a debacle.
But, since chair Dr Kate Baddock spoke to the Epidemic Response Committee, the Ministry of Health has taken over distribution.
She says it's worked much better -- and it's a lesson learned.
Baddock says the ministry's already confirmed it'll distribute a COVID-19 vaccine when the time comes -- and that's exactly what the association would like to see.
Record numbers of New Zealanders have been vaccinated so far this year ... 587-thousand, as opposed to 290-thousand at the same time last year.
Today marks the end of vaccines being restricted to priority groups only.
