New research could help detect Covid-19 before people show symptoms

A University of Canterbury team's discovered a way to test inflammation - by measuring an antioxidant produced by white blood cells.
Study leader Professor Stephen Gieseg this means doctors can detect an inflammation response using a quick urine test .
He says there's some evidence Covid-19 has an immune suppression process built in - so the disease can spread before people show symptoms.
Gieseg says they've been working on this for years to target heart disease - but it may end up more useful for fighting infectious ones.
