The feed shortage is so severe, farmers are rapidly trying to reduce numbers of stock before they starve to death.
Wairarapa farmers have combined offer a temporary solution, gathering more than 10 trucks' worth of feed for Hawke's Bay.
Federated Farmers Hawke's Bay President Jim Galloway says the drought is crippling the region.
He says it's way worse than anything else being thrown at farmers, usually they grow about 15 kilos of dry matter, but now they're only getting three or less.
