Tension is growing between the A-League and its players with a critical date fast approaching

Tension is growing between the A-League and its players with a critical date fast approaching

The Australian professional footballers' union is demanding a fairer sharing of the Covid-19 burden as A-League players face 80-per cent pay cuts.

A financial model, reportedly put forward by Football Federation Australia, shows clubs will receive significantly less than the 800-thousand dollars they normally would from a 13-million dollar broadcast deal payment.

The timing of the pay dispute is tricky as a large portion of the league's players come off contract on May 31.

The FFA is still hopeful of finishing the A-League season by August.
