Earthquakes coupled with unruly pipes are proving a bad mix in the Capital

Earthquakes coupled with unruly pipes are proving a bad mix in the Capital

Just before 6pm last night sewage was sent spilling into the Harbour after a wastewater pipe burst on Victoria Street in the CBD.

Acting Wellington Water CEO Tonia Haskell says it's an old sewer network and there have been recent earthquakes in the City.

She believes the suspect pipes are made of steel which are inflexible, and they now use PVC pipes which are better able to withstand shaking.
