A corrections officer is being provided with ongoing support after they were shot at earlier this week

A corrections officer is being provided with ongoing support after they were shot at earlier this week

Police were called to a report of shots in the vicinity of Whanganui Prison around twenty past nine on Wednesday.

There were no reported injuries and enquiries are ongoing.

Corrections Association president Alan Whitley says there are some early indications it might have followed a traffic incident in town.

It's believed a vehicle followed the man to the prison carpark before shots were fired.
