A violent altercation has cast doubts on the future of one of the longest-running First XV rugby rivalries in the south

A violent altercation has cast doubts on the future of one of the longest-running First XV rugby rivalries in the south

St Kevin's College is due to play Waitaki Boys' High School for the 86th time next Friday.

But principal Paul Olsen has told the Otago Daily Times a group of about 30 former Waitaki Boys' pupils entered St Kevin's grounds on Wednesday night.

Police say an altercation ensued between St Kevin's pupils and the group, resulting in a teenager being admitted to hospital with "relatively serious injuries"

They say the injured man was neither a school pupil nor from Oamaru.

The previous night another person has also trespassed on to the St Kevin's precinct, vandalising property and "traumatising" staff families.
