Hunter MacIntosh's mother came home last October to find her son with a large knife in his stomach - in the small Southland farming town of Otautau.
Daniel Cameron - who was 15 at the time - earlier pleaded guilty to his murder.
At the High Court in Invercargill today Cameron was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of 11 years
The Courthouse was packed with more than 50 people in the public gallery - including the victim's distraught mother.
