At least eight people have died on New Zealand roads over the weekend

Early Saturday morning, two Dunedin men were killed when their car crashed into a truck on Great King Street and caught fire.

A child was hit by a car in a Tauranga driveway that afternoon - and a person died after a one-car crash in Taihape three hours later.

On Sunday, two cars went down a bank near Cheviot in North Canterbury - with one person dying at the scene.
