An urgent investigation into an old council landfall site near Gisborne, that eroded during heavy rain

Gisborne District Council says it's trying to find ways to stop rubbish from the landfill at Te Araroa entering a nearby river.

It's also working to stabilise the site.

The landfill -- located abut 170 kilometres north of Gisborne -- has been closed for about 15 years.
