A Wellington business has been fined 260 thousand dollars after a worker's hand was caught in a pastry roller

A Wellington business has been fined 260 thousand dollars after a worker's hand was caught in a pastry roller

Oriental Cuisine Limited has been ordered to pay the man 40 thousand dollars after he sustained fractures and de-gloved fingers in July 2018.

A WorkSafe investigation found before the incident was reported, the pastry roller was cleaned with an air gun, then continued to be used.

In a similar case last week, a Napier meat processor was fined after a worker caught her hand in a machine's chain.

WorkSafe's Chief Inspector Steve Kelly says there are too many workers whose safety is compromised by having to operate unguarded machinery.
