Trucking companies say shifting Auckland's port south would keep freight costs lower

The Auckland Business Chamber's released a paper backing a new port being built at the Firth of Thames.
The option was also recommended as the second preference - behind Manukau - in a recent report for the Ministry of Transport.
Road Transport Forum CEO Nick Leggett says a move to Northland would bring some problems.
He says the road transport industry would've made more from the port shifting north, but they also know it'll add costs to the supply chain and freight costs.
