Fatal crashes are down about 30 per cent in Canterbury - despite a different public perception

In the past year there have been 36 fatalities on the road compared with 52 the year before.
District Commander Superintendent John Price says the reporting of fatal crashes gives the wrong impression.
He says many non-fatal crashes aren't publicised.
Price says an average Wednesday in the province would see about 23 crashes a day.
