    The club's lost their latest preferred candidate after offering him the role.

    Payten's temporarily been in charge at the NRL club since Stephen Kearney was dismissed last month.

    The 41-year-old's revealed what tipped the situation out of the Warriors favour on Fox Sports' NRL 360 show.



    Payten's preference is to coach his former club the Cowboys.
