    A body has been found in the Whanganui River


    Police were called about 3.15am to reports a man was in distress in the water near Anzac Parade.

    The Police National Dive Squad searched the area, and found a body just before 4.30 this afternoon.

    It's now being formally identified.

    The local iwi has performed a blessing and placed a three day rähui on the site.
