Eighty workers have been involved in the 11 week project to replace 280 concrete slabs at the eastern end. .
Almost 13 thousand tonnes of concrete has been transported to the runway in 890 truckloads.
Twelve kilometres of new electrical cabling has also been installed to support the airfield lighting system.
Ironically, the pandemic has helped the project.
Auckland Airport's General Manager for Infrastructure André Lovatt says the downturn in aviation traffic, has provided them with an opportunity to bring the project forward.
