Watercare says Aucklanders want - and expect - more water than what is available
10 September 2020
An application Watercare lodged in May for an additional 100 million litres per day from the Waikato River, has been granted by Waikato Regional Council.
It's about a quarter of what the city's currently using each day.
Watercare chief executive Raveen Jaduram says water infrastructure has been built to meet population demand.
But he says the city needs more water security - but people want more than there is.
He says Auckland Council needs to make a decision that will lead to increased security of water supply for the city.
