Helicopter pilots are being advised to check monsoon buckets before they fly off to fight fires

The Civil Aviation Authority is urging pre-flight checks after an Airbus Helicopter was forced to land in Nelson when a monsoon bucket line hit a tail rotor in 2019.
The pilot walked away with an injured ankle after he lost control.
Aviation Safety Deputy CEO Dean Winter says it's pleasing later models have been improved.
He says the authority is trying to reduce deaths and helicopters remain a safety focus.
