Katrina Epiha has been arrested at a home in Massey in West Auckland.
The 22-year-old escaped while being transferred from Middlemore Hospital back to prison, in the early hours of Friday, a fortnight ago.
Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Jill Rogers hopes the arrest will bring some reassurance to the wider community.
Epiha is due to appear in Manukau District Court today, alongside a 47-year-old man arrested at the same address, and charged in relation to being an accessory after the fact.
Corrections says a full operational review into the incident is underway.
