Pihi Hei was sentenced to 16 years in prison, after a jury found him guilty of charges of indecent assault, sexual violation, unlawful sexual connection, rape, and stupefying.
The charges related to offending against two women who had responded to job advertisements at the remote Maraehako Bay Retreat in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Hei's appeal against his sentence has been allowed in part, with the judge quashing the nine year minimum period of imprisonment.
