Victoria University researchers analysed Facebook posts from Judith Collins and Jacinda Ardern for a week in September.
The study found Collins posted twice as much as Ardern -- however Ardern received 75 per cent of the total likes.
Ardern shared no negative content whereas 27 per cent of posts from the National leader were negative.
Researchers say from a strategic perspective it makes sense Ardern's kept away from dirty campaigning as it can backfire.
