Runners are hitting the streets of Auckland - with the Annual Auckland Marathon just getting underway

As a result, the two southbound clip-on lanes of the Harbour Bridge are closed, but should reopen by 11.30.

There are also other closures around the Esmonde Road Interchange and the Onewa Road southbound on ramp.

On the city side of the bridge the Shelley Beach Road off ramp and the Curran Street on-ramp are closed until 11.30, while the Fanshawe Street off-ramp is closed until 3pm.

Ironman Regional Director Chris Randle says they're delighted with the number of entries.

He says there's more than 13 and a half thousand people taking part - which is quite unbelievable given the year we've had.
