Compulsory roll bars on quad bike look to be inevitable, as the Government flags law changes to reduce farm deaths

Compulsory roll bars on quad bike look to be inevitable, as the Government flags law changes to reduce farm deaths

Quad bike safety is in the spotlight, as the machines account for a third of all deaths on farms.

MBIE's Health and Safety Policy manager Lisa Collins says proposals to change health and safety legislation for work machinery and vehicles are being finalised.

She says the death rate is too high for quad bikes and ministerial decisions will be made early next year.

Worksafe changed its position last year to recommend roll bars for quads.
