Canterbury DHB has been ordered to pay a former hospital cafe worker 42 thousand after the Employment Relations Authority found she was unfairly dismissed.
The worker failed to replace ten dollars from a donation jar to buy a pack of lozenges for a colleague after a pay facility did not work.
CDHB subsequently fired the person for misappropriating cash in a deceptive manner.
Employment lawyer Robert Thompson says the impact on the employee and her family was excessive.
