The Covid Kai Survey, which ran between April and May, found most people increased their consumption of unhealthy foods and drinks.
A third of people reported drinking more alcohol -- and 40 per cent ate more sweet snacks.
Lead Researcher Sarah Gerritsen from Auckland University says we need to make changes, should we lock down again.
She says it would be a good idea to open independent grocers and fruit and vege stores -- and place restrictions on marketing and promotions of unhealthy foods.
