Realities of being a 35-year-old international wicketkeeper-batsman brought home to B-J Watling

The realities of being a 35-year-old international wicketkeeper-batsman have been brought home to B-J Watling ahead of the opening New Zealand-West Indies cricket test in Hamilton

In a move which might foreshadow the future, Tom Blundell takes the gloves and moves down the order with Will Young set to open on debut as the country's 280th test representative.

Captain Kane Williamson says Watling's hamstring twinge meant a 71st cap was out of the question.

The focus ahead of tomorrow's start is now on whether Mitchell Santner's used.

He could play at the expense of a pace bowler, or works as an all-rounder in place of Daryl Mitchell.
