A man accused of stealing a yacht from the Marlborough Sounds, is said to have significantly damaged it in the process

The 41-year-old will appear in the Blenheim District Court on charges relating to the yacht's theft at the end of October.
It's estimated the boat sustained 60-thousand dollars worth of damage in the three days between being stolen, and being abandoned near Plimmerton.
Police say the alleged thief had a lack of sailing experience and wasn't familiar with the yacht.
He managed to overheat the engine and catch it on fire, and run the 210-thousand dollar yacht aground twice.
