Liana Kahi was found dead in her cell at Christchurch Women's Prison in July 2016.
Coroner Sue Johnson has ruled her death was a suicide.
She says making it easier for prisoners to access professional help -- might have prevented Kahi's death.
The prison says it has since implemented changes.
