Parts of the lower South Island received a solid dumping of snow this morning, in stark contrast to some high summer temperatures in recent days.
Otago farmer Stuart Duncan says it was all a bit of a shock.
He says it was especially strange considering he was bailing hay in 30 degrees yesterday.
MetService says snow fell as low as 200 metres in Fiordland.
