The Blood Service is confident it can take people's word on blood donation stand down periods

Blood from cis-gender gay and bisexual men who sleep with men can now be accepted, after three month's celibacy - rather than a year.
Transfusion medicine specialist Dr Peter Flanagan says New Zealand has a track record of safe donations.
He says there's no evidence of non-compliance after previous changes to the abstention period.
Flanagan says it suggests people have confidence in abiding with donation rules when they know the reasoning is science based.
