Despite recent publicity, police continue to find faults with container trucks

They've been checking the large number of heavy vehicles ferrying Christmas cargo along State Highway 1 between Northport and Auckland.
Out of one-thousand-201 trucks now inspected, 222 have failed -- that's a rate of around one in five.
Twenty-two had such serious faults they were taken off the road.
A large percentage of faults identified are related to lighting, wheels and brakes
Senior Sergeant Mike Flatt says the trend is disappointing -- and should serve as a stark warning to the trucking industry that it must comply with safety standards.
