Erin Kidwell died from synthetic cannabis toxicity in a Manurewa flat last November.
The 40-year-old was found face down on a friend's kitchen floor lying in his own vomit, after he'd smoked and was left there.
An analysis of 84 coronial cases, shows distinctive trends, including the most at-risk groups are men, Maori, people aged 40 or older, people being treated for mental health illness and medical conditions, and people experiencing homelessness.
Coroner Tania Tetitaha says Kidwell fell into all of the categories.
