Visiting a loved one in hospital is most expensive for South Aucklanders

Visiting a loved one in hospital is most expensive for South Aucklanders

A survey shows they're stung nine dollars for just two hours, and 23 dollars for a day for parking.

Hospitals are caught between a rock and a hard place -- with some having private companies in charge of parking spaces.

Some financially struggling DHBs put their money into buildings or equipment -- rather than parking.

ACC's investment arm bought the rights to run carparking at Middlemore Hospital in 2012 -- with Wilson Parking acting as its management company.

The DHB says families of patients in hospital for more than seven days can apply for a $50 pass for a week of parking.

Visitors are also encouraged to use public transport.
