Seven time major winner John McEnroe believes it's high time tennis ditched the best-of-five set matches for men at grand slams

Seven time major winner John McEnroe believes it's high time tennis ditched the best-of-five set matches for men at grand slams

Men's singles matches in the four slams are still the first to three sets, although tie-breaks have now been introduced to shorten fifth sets at Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

McEnroe has told ESPN he believes with so many other entertainment options, long five hour matches are turning fans off the sport.

The American believes a championship tiebreak - played to 10 - should replace a fifth set.
