A welcome step in New Zealand's fight against climate change

Bathurst Resources is closing its Canterbury Coal Mine near Darfield, and will cease operations within the next year.
Around 35 jobs will be lost from the mine, which extracts around 100-thousand tonnes of coal a year.
Coal Action network spokesperson Cindy Baxter says the operation has a chequered past.
She says the Selwyn District Council recently discovered the mine was extracting more coal than it was consented for.
