Otari Wilton's Bush is home to three kaka nests with at least 12 baby birds inside.
Visitors are being asked to keep their dogs on a lead for the next few weeks, while the birds learn to fly.
Otari-Wilton's Bush curator Tim Park says when he heard the news of a fledgling on the ground, he couldn't contain his excitement.
He says it's amazing to see the birds flocking back to old trees and doing what they did hundreds of years ago.
