GPs have their eyes on preparing for a wide vaccine rollout in New Zealand
16 February 2021
The Government plans to begin Covid-19 vaccine administration for frontline staff from this Saturday, after confirming the first batch arrived yesterday.
Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners medical director Dr Bryan Betty says GPs won't really be involved with vaccinating these people.
But he says there's a lot of work for GPs to do before the wider population is vaccinated - and the resourcing side of things needs lots of careful thought.
Betty says there needs to be adequate numbers of trained vaccinators, with financial resourcing - and letting it happen on top of routine flu vaccination programmes too.
