The cancellation of the Motatapu race is the latest in a long line of blows for the Queenstown Lakes District in the era pf Covid-19.
The multisport event draws hundreds of competitors and their supporters to the region each year.
Queenstown Chamber of Commerce chief Ruth Stokes says the district is desperately hoping for a swift return to alert level one.
She says large events are vital to the district at a time like this.
Stokes says many will be hoping a Crowded House concert can still go ahead next weekend.
