Inspector Jason Homan says a man fled when officers approached a suspicious vehicle in Whitaker Place to speak to the driver, about 2.30pm.
Police didn't chase the vehicle, but the driver was later found and armed police and the Eagle helicopter were sent to the Mt Albert address.
Inspector Homan says after negotiations, the man was taken into custody without incident.
No firearms have been found at the scene.
