The Green party is proposing tougher restrictions on buying properties other than the family home

Suggestions to the Reserve Bank include a requirement for cash deposits and ending interest only mortgages on investment properties.
The change would stop existing homeowners from using just the equity in their home to buy additional houses.
Green party finance spokesperson Julie Anne Genter says housing should be affordable for everyone.
She says she didn't stand for parliament to help get people a holiday home at the beach, but so people can have a warm, decent place to live.
