A top cop says there are several pieces to the puzzle, when it comes to improving the safety of online dating

Tinder is trialling a new vetting system in the US -- which will allow users to check public records and reports of violence and abuse.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard -- who won national praise for helping bring Grace Millane's murderer to justice -- says it's a good idea, that will help reduce sexual violence.

But he says it's important everyone takes simple precautions, when meeting people they've met online.
