Warragamba Dam began overflowing yesterday afternoon, prompting an evacuation order for resident's living in Picton.
Authorities are warning surrounding communities for potential flooding if heavy rainfall continues.
New South Wales Deputy Commissioner Daniel Austin told Sky News the situation is evolving quickly.
He says there will be some impacts to homes if the area gets the rainfall conditions that are predicted, with heavy rainfall projected to fall across the Sydney basin.
