Vital evidence from the Pike River tragedy is beginning to breach the surface

Vital evidence from the Pike River tragedy is beginning to breach the surface

The disaster recovery team is turning it's attention to an area known as Pit Bottom in Stone , a part of the mine containing various equipment for its former operation.

It's hoped this will paint a better picture of the explosion which took the lives of 29 men in 2010.

Pike River Recovery officer Dinghy Pattinson says recovering items for police forensics is already underway.

he process is expected to take several months.
