Australia claimed the opening Rose Bowl ODI match against the White Ferns at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval by six wickets.
Aussie bowler Megan Schutt is no stranger to New Zealand pitches, after playing here on many occasions.
But she says it will benefit younger players in the team.
Australia take on the White Ferns in the second ODI at the Bay Oval on Wednesday.
