A call for level-headed discussion about a working group report suggesting a separate Maori parliament, along with different health and justice systems

A call for level-headed discussion about a working group report suggesting a separate Maori parliament, along with different health and justice systems

He Puapua was commissioned by the Government in 2019.

The National Party says the Government's trying to create two systems by stealth, but Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the report hasn't been before Cabinet.

Maori Council executive director, Matthew Tukaki, says there are unlikely to be separate systems for Maori, but we need to debate these issues out in the open.

He gets turned off by the tone of the debate descending into cat calling and dog whistling.
